Linking Exchange Server 2003 to SQL Server 2000
The following commands in Query Analyzer:
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'exchange',
'Exchange OLE DB provider',
'exoledb.DataSource.1',
'file:\\.\backofficestorage\localhost\public folders'
Go
SELECT Convert(nvarchar(30), "urn:schemas:contacts:sn") LastName
FROM OpenQuery(Exchange, 'SELECT "urn:schemas:contacts:sn"
FROM ".\Public Folders\Company Contacts"')
produce the following results:
Server: Msg 7304, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Could not create a new session on OLE DB provider 'exoledb.DataSource.1'.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'exoledb.DataSource.1'
IDBCreateSession::CreateSession returned 0x80150804].
I am trying to access contacts in public folders.
Can anyone help with this?
Is this the best way to read/modify these records?
What about using this to check/modify tasks and emails?
When I browse the folder structure in the Exchange System Manager the
following shows:
Folders -> Public Folders -> Public Folders -> Company Contacts
When I go to the properties of the "Company Contacts" folder in Exchange
System Manager I get:
/Public Folders/Company Contacts/
When I look at the same structure in Outlook I see the breakdown as:
Public Folders -> All Public Folders -> Public Folders -> Company
Contacts
Thanks

servers problem
I have two computers with Windows XP, and each these is a SQL SERVER.
I execute sp_addlinkedserver for link both servers, but when I execute a
statement SELECT using my linked server, the following error is raised:
Msg 18452, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Login failed for user '(sa)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL
Server connection.
In both servers the authentication mode is Mixed.
can anybody help me? thanks. My guess is that you mapped the login to a SQL Server login on the other machine, and that the other
machine doesn't allow SQL Server logins (it runs in "Windows Only" mode).

Both Servers are Mixed authentication.
At moment to create linked servers i did it with login map and without but
the result is the same.

But when i run Select count(*) from Servername.dbname.tablename
it give me this error
Server: Msg 7202, Level 11, State 2, Line 1
Could not find server 'Servername' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers.
Any reasons why?Did you add a login to the linked server too? If you did, go to EM and see if you can see the table list.

server with SQL 2005
I used the Stored Procedure SP_addlinkedserver.
With MS SQL Server Management Studio I used the "New Query" function and write: "select * from LKserver...LKserver " and used the "execute" command to view my DBF table on Results Window. It is fast!!
if I create a view with the same linked server and execute it with "Open View" I receive a "timeout exception error"
Why ?
thanksPerhaps you need to create the view on the linked server, not on the local server.|||?! It is not possible to create a view on a linked server, expecially if it is a DBF table!
If I use the View I have a problem of "time expired" then I must maximize the query time but I don't know where to do it?!
server with DB2
I create a Linked server to a DB2 Database with this command
EXECUTE sp_addlinkedserver
@.server = 'test',
@.provider = 'MSDASQL',
@.srvproduct = 'DB2',
I can see the new linked server and the tables in the enterprise manager.
But when I try to access a table of the db2 database (select * from test..xyz.tablename) , I get this error message:
Server: Msg 7313, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid schema or catalog specified for provider 'MSDASQL'
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
BSAI would have expected the provider to be 'DB2OLEDB'.
An example is provided in Books Online for establishing a liked DB@. server:
I. Use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2
This example creates a linked server named DB2 that uses the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2.
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@.server='DB2',
@.srvproduct='Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2',
@.catalog='DB2',
@.provider='DB2OLEDB',
@.provstr='Initial Catalog=PUBS;Data Source=DB2;HostCCSID=1252;Network Address=XYZ;Network Port=50000;Package Collection=admin;Default Schema=admin;'
Also, when I reference a table via a linked server I use the reference <server name>.<database name>.<owner name>.<table name>, does DB2 need this kind of reference?

Think I'm closer. Turns out that MDAC has not recognized VFPOLEDB despite having downloading and installed it on Windows Server 2003. I have now tried regsvr32 and it says it's registered but still not listed in MDAC (used the component checker). Thoughts?

server to secure Access Database
This is my second try to get the answer..
I have created a linked server to a secure database with following query
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@.server = 'MYSERVER2',
@.provider = 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
@.srvproduct = 'ACCESS',
@.datasrc = 'C:\COSTING2.mdb'
GO
sp_addlinkedsrvlogin myserver2, false,sa, Admin, 'ansari'
when I run the query
SELECT * FROM Myserver2...Material
I get the following error
OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. Authentication
failed.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: Not a valid account name or password.]
any idea?
AnsariRemove the so-called "security" from the Access database. Anyone
capable of doing a google search can easily bypass Jet security,
accessing the mdb as an administrator with full priviledges. It's not
worth the trouble, and it can't be made to work reliably with linked
servers.
